Although among the US smallest states but most densely populated to navigate around the 23 square miles that is Manhattan Island you are best avoiding car hire. Despite the best efforts of the easy navigation system installed in most US cities the streets are steadily gridlocked with transport at most times of the day. Most New Yorkers tend to walk the streets along with many tourists visiting the city. However, as attractions are widespread throughout the city most New York guides will emphasize other forms of transport for both ease and speed when visiting the city.

The quickest New York travel method to get around the Island and view the highlights is the New York subway. Although it is not recommended for night travel there are unlikely to be problems during the day. More on the New York Subway...

If looking for a more leisurely pace with most of the major attractions then official New York tourism guides are available on the distinctive open-top red New York tour buses that travel around the city. More on New York Buses...

For beautiful sea views and photographs of the New York skyline then a visit would not be complete without taking one of the many New York tour boat rides across the East River or Hudson River and around the Island. More on New York Boats...

Of course a trip to the big city would hardly be complete without the ultimate experience of a ride in one of their distinctive yellow cabs. New York taxis are probably the best method of getting around the city after 10pm anyway and their drivers are legendary. More on New York Taxis...
