Times Square and Broadway represents all that is bright and vibrant in the city. Centred around 42nd Street its neon billboards and offshoots to Broadway shows remain busy both day and night and not just on New Year's Eve when people are tightly packed celebrating the dawn of a New Year.

New York city Times Square is well recognized at night from global images of New Yorkers & city visitors welcoming in each New Year. At other times of the year it is slightly less busy but it remains a central hub of activity both day and even into the late night hours.

Times Square New York is a cultural hub full of theaters, music halls, movie houses, ABC Times Square Studios, tourist shops, food and New York entertainment stores. The square is brightly decorated by large animated neon signs making it instantly recognizable as soon as entering the main area.

New York Broadway's main hub spills off from Times Square and offers a wide range of theatre and music shows. Broadway New York is one of the oldest thoroughfares in the city and as being the main area of concentration for theatre and opera houses it is the pinnacle of the American theatre industry.

Broadway is often in the top entertainment attractions for New York city guides as the cast list of performers and plays is impressive although tickets for opening shows are often hard to come by unless booked well in advance. That said cheap same day show tickets can be purchased from the TKTS booth in Times Square (shown in the photo above) where you often see large queues of people. The booth opens at 10am for matinee performances and 3pm for evening shows. Arrive early if you want to see a popular show otherwise you are likely to be disappointed however ticket prices can be as heavily discounted as 33-50% so well worth the wait.
