new york things to do overview New York city is crammed full of world class attractions and things to do. Tourists find it hard to run out of things to do in the Big Apple even on their tenth visit. There's always something new that entices travellers to visit again and again, so much that many become addicted to this vibrant city and choose to remain. Even at night the buildings are arresting sights, tourists are often spotted by their transfixed glaze upwards but even so accidents are rare as the streets of the city are excellently maintained. Street geysers (created by hot steams pouring out from street drain covers) add to this evocative mix alongside gleaming gold or silver polished water access points strategically placed on buildings. Despite the many New York inhabitants on the whole the city steets are spotless and since the smoking ban pollution seems minimal for such a sprawling metropolis. Each area of Manhattan Island is filled with places to visit and things to do from Harlem right down Staten Island. Whether it's admiring the different architecture of buildings, visiting an art gallery, museum, religious building, theatre or club or hitting one of the many big attractions that New York has in abundance. Although it is mainly the big attractions like the Empire State that pull visitors to this city on the first visit the standard of traditional city attractions are also world class and draw people from far flung continents. New York city's museums have some of the most highly prized collections of art, sculpture and antiquities. The diverse exemplary architectural styles reflected in the city's buildings contribute to the beauty and magnificence of Manhattan Island's skyline. Alongside London's West End, Broadway is a must see destination for theatre goers and for the city that never sleeps both clubs and bars exhibit a bewildering array of musical styles including Classical, Jazz & Blues, Rock, Dance and Hip-Hop. That said there are some attractions that top the hit list of most tourists when first visiting the New York city - the only question is whether they have enough time to see them all in one visit. Not surprisingly most decide to spread these over several visits to New York. The Empire State building remains New York's most famous skyscraper standing at 443 meters or 1454ft. Built in 23 weeks it was opened in 1931 to crowds of people and remains one of the top draws to the city. However at all times of the year people flock to visit the 843 acres of green space on the northern part of Manhattan Island. Right in the heart of the financial district it is difficult not to become emotive when visualising the vast change to New York's skyline. New York's stock exchange building lies just round the corner from the Bull. Nearby Staten Island represents the lowest borough of New York city. More on Ellis, Liberty and Staten Islands Times Square and Broadway represents all that is bright and vibrant to the city. Centred around 42nd Street its neon billboards and offshoots to Broadway shows remain packed both day and night.
