new york oyster bar & restaurant

Oyster Bar, Lower level Grand Central Terminal (at 42nd street and Park Avenue). (212) 490-6650.

For fish lovers in the Grand Central terminus on the lower level is the popular Oyster Bar & Restaurant. Oyster Bar's long-standing reputation for seafood delicacies is well deserved (they have been serving NY clientele since 1913) and booking is advised. Dress code is casual at the Oyster Bar the ceiling is a lovely mosaic of arched white tiles which brings just the right levels of light to this underground restaurant.

Visit the raw bar for a quick stop or look at their vast daily menu and see what tempts you be it Oysters, Lobsters, Shellfish, Stews, Main dishes or fish from their Smokehouse. For those with bigger appetites try polishing off with a tempting selection of homemade desserts. Alternatively if short of time on your New York city break you may want to take in the unique atmosphere by popping in for a drink or two as they serve a great range of cocktails.

Other nearby restaurants recommended include Sushi Yasuda (on 43rd and 3rd Ave) for some of the best Sushi in the city, or Sparks Steak House (on 46th and 3rd Ave) for those who can't do without their meat!
